Bride and Daughter

What a fun photo of a bride and her daughter. Both are getting ready for the wedding in the bride’s bedroom. The lighting was very dim, so I grabbed my best low light camera. I focused on the bride, but composed the image so her daughter was making up the background. They are both looking into the image which brings your eye back and forth between the two subjects. The bride was having her gown zipped up while her daughter looks on. I love the way both have curls of hair flowing down, very poetic and charming! A great low light lens with an image stabilized camera was the tool of choice.

Church Light

This image was taken from the balcony of Saint Pius the Tenth church in Essex Jct, Vermont. A camera modified to take only infrared images was used. Infrared cameras see heat rather than visible light. Sometimes the effect is very interesting. In this photo it helped brighten up a dark church. A bit of natural grain, that is common with infrared photos, and black and white printing help add to the effect. Over all the photo has more depth and interest than similar images taken at the same time with a color camera.

Brides Prayer

This moment happened just before the bride was to put on her wedding gown. The event was taking place at Sugarbush Inn in Warren, Vermont. As the bride and her closest friends got into a group  holding hands, I grabbed a camera that was good in dark situations that would not require flash. I positioned the bride in the center and made sure to include her wedding gown in the photo on the right.   I clicked off a few exposures and my favorite was this image showing the bride with an angelic smile,   the perfect expression for a tender moment. Just seconds later the room exploded in a frenzy of activity as everyone started getting ready for the big occasion. Sepia tone softens the photo and adds to the subtle natural window light.

First Dance

This is one of my all time favorite wedding photos. This classic wedding photo was taken at The Old Lantern in Charlotte, Vermont. The quality of light in the room was amazing! This beautiful light and the wonderful expressions of the bride and groom and their guests, really allows you to feel all of the emotions that were in the room that day. This image was captured using a low light lens and just the interior lighting of the room. Since no flash was used, the character of the event and its beautiful lighting was preserved. The final image was toned sepia to give it a timeless quality.
